Our Electoral Ethics

Now Cong. Mikey Arroyo has a reason to smile as the COMELEC secures his seat as a representative for party-list Ang Galing Pinoy. The electoral body voted 4-2-1 in favor of former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's son to allow to represent a group of security guards.

I am against in this decision made by COMELEC that they let him allow to represent a party-list. Mikey does not have a necessary qualifications of being a true representative of a marginalized sector. It is also obvious that Mikey, being his term as a congressional representative ended, wants to extend by running for party-list.

Now this decision will mar the reputation of the party-list representation in the Congress. Rather than giving a marginalized sector a voice in legislation, it becomes a mask of some opportunists politicians who wants to extend their power.

It must also serve as lesson to all voters to look also the nominees of these party-list groups and their qualifications so that we are not being fooled by those who are claiming to represent the marginalized.
